A Better Man Film screening

A Better Man Film Screening
Join us on Tuesday, May 1 at Northern United Place for the NWT's first screening of A Better Man.

YWCA NWT, in partnership with the Yellowknife Women's Society, will be screening A Better Man, a documentary film by Attiya Khan & Lawrence Jackman that has screened at film festivals and venues around the world.

During the two years they lived together, Steve abused Attiya on a daily basis. Now 20 years later, Attiya has asked Steve to meet. She wants to know how he remembers their relationship and if he is willing to take responsibility for his violent actions. This meeting marks a new beginning in Attiya’s own recovery process—as well as an important starting point for Steve. For the first time ever, he speaks of the abuse and cracks opens the door to dealing with the past.

Following a series of intimate conversations between the former couple, A Better Man offers a fresh look at the healing and revelation that can happen for everyone involved when men take responsibility for their abuse. It also empowers audience members to play new roles in challenging domestic violence, whether it’s in their own relationships or as part of a broader movement for social change.

Presented by THE NATIONAL FILM BOARD OF CANADA and Intervention Productions in association with TVO. Free admission.

This film contains sensitive material and is not recommended for viewers under age 16. A counselor will be onsite.
